A jaunt through Film City

Film City in Goregaon East is a hilltop jungle like JNU, interspersed with office buildings like Adlabs and Whistling Woods, the new film school advertised before Bollywood flicks. Many of the mid-’80s Bollyflicks’ fight and rape scenes were filmed on these hills. We saw a set of the main street of a little village, but we didn’t get in for lack of a bigwig. A road leading to a hilltop vista was closed after sunset with a ‘beware of leopards,’ who apparently dine on stray dogs and once chased Akshay Kumar on a shoot.

The Adlabs building had funky modern faucets and urinals with yet another funny brand. Here’s what I’ve seen on Bombay urinals and flush sensors:

  • S&M
  • Faguar, with a crossed J
  • Hindware, wares for the hindquarters (actually hind-waa-ray, but it’s funnier the other way)

Adlabs started out as a post-production color lab and are now like Universal Studios.

Any pictures from the inside? More details? I’m thinking about visiting the place when I go to India in a few months.

Visit was too short, but will try and go again. You’ll need an intro or an organized tour to see sets– check the Bombay expats Yahoo group for info.
