A modest Mumbai proposal
Because some terrorists use the Net, the Bombay government wants to install keyloggers at all Internet cafés (via India Uncut). This brilliant idea won’t be protested much, because few Mumbaikars are regular Net users.
I fully support the government’s plan to cc: your email, banking and late-night wankery directly to the servers of the valiant Maharashtran police. In fact, the plan doesn’t go far enough. I respectfully point out that terrorists ride buses: videotape all BEST bus riders. Terrorists use phones: record all conversations at the switch. Terrorists buy lungis: cameras in mannequins. Terrorists buy fruit: microphones in papayas.
I demand to see mikes and cameras in my papaya-filled lungis. Only then will I feel safe in Bombay.

Amit mentions that an engineer was arrested for posting some blasphemous comment about Shivaji because Google cooperated and supplied the IP address. This just makes it harder to make it harder for a person to be identified in case their personal views are deemed thoughtcrimes by the government.
Which reminds me, I gotta go create some desi based hate groups on Orkut. I doubt they’ll be sending any pandus after me.
Love this blog entry , it is so funny …u have a great sense of humor Manish..
but then I prefer sacrificing individual freedom to keeping countries and everyone safe.
Hyderbad blasts scared me so much as my whole extended family lives there and I dont care if someone taps our phone conversations or keeps track of emails..loss of privacy and individual freedom a lil bit is ok as long as they keep our people and countries safe..
Meanwhile, Ness and his men race towards capone’s hideout…
I was gonna comment more but I just found this great thread on Bruce Schneier’s security blog discussing this piece of news.
