American nabbed leaving India without souvenirs
An American woman was detained at Oakland Airport yesterday when she attempted to return from an exotic Indian vacation without any souvenirs. Jacinda Parrot of Berkeley, California was nabbed by the Department of Homeland Security for her suspicious behavior on a return visit from Jaipur.
“Most girls comin’ back from India, they got some tie-dyed saris, bindis, DIY henna, Hindu chants, Krishna t-shirt, handbag made outta a cement sack, somethin’,” said Mario Guitiérrez, the sharp-eyed customs officer who detained Simmons. “This one came back clean. It was very suspicious.”

“Miss Parrot evaded the Indian departure tax,” said Jeejeebhoy Chaipaniwalla, Gutiérrez’ counterpart in Jaipur. “She paid not even a single tout. Carved wooden elephants, nakli jade earrings, yoga mat, cheap salvation, a bad case of diarrhea. Jeero. I couldn’t even collect one paisa from her. Kuchh tho khareedo, kanjoos kutti.”
“I went to Jaipur on business,” protested Parrot. “I checked into a hotel, had my meeting and left.”
Parrot runs an NGO working on financial transparency.

This is very similar to the experience I had returning to India from America only. The badmash Customs agent, Bupender Kaul, demanded to see pictures of my trip to Disneyland and Niagara Falls! I was going to America for my export buisness only! Damn you Bupender!

Customs agents are badmash’s for sure… I was returning from the US.. and after my 24 hour flight from San francisco… i looked like shit… and I had like a PSP, a new Ipod.. and multimeters for my dad…. no green channel.. nothing… he jus waved me right through thinking I couldn’t have anything… a previous time.. I took a mac and a pc laptop from India.. and knowing I would have issues when I bought them back.. declared em…. and when I came back.. the customs guy refused to honor it, saying I could not bring the laptop back without paying duty.. WTF!!!!

PRS: I got the customs duty shakedown at the Bombay airport. They backed off ten minutes later when they asked about the passport and I told them it was American. It felt very neocolonialist. Like Bombayites don’t buy electronics overseas!
