An early Basant

I just noticed the melodramatic Kite Runner book is being touted at NYC Starbucks outlets. The $15 paperback has a promo wrap promoting its upcoming movie.

You may also have seen for sale the reflective silver cards which represent iTunes albums. The cards have a magnetic strip across the bottom for the cashier, and a scratch-off code to redeem at the online store:

Starting October 2, Starbucks company-operated locations in the U.S. will offer iTunes Digital Release Cards for sale, including KT Tunstall’s Drastic Fantastic… and music from the film Into the Wild, featuring all new songs from Eddie Vedder… After the card is activated upon purchase at Starbucks, customers can download the album and bonus material on the iTunes Store… [Link]

It’s so convoluted, you’d think it would be easier if they just sold you a CD with pre-ripped MP3s.

I should mention I saw “The Kite Runner” movie and it is very good. The screenplay actually corrects some flaws in the original - it’s that rare movie that improves on the book, while preserving its spirit.
