Bearing witness

Yet another George ‘Macaca’ Allen slur witness has comes forward. The wife of Allen’s college rugby coach says she heard him use the word ‘nigger’ repeatedly in ‘78-79. She’s annoyed that he now claims he’s never used the slur (via Americablog):

Here’s the full segment on Hardball.

The latest poll shows Allen leading 49% to Jim Webb’s 44%, though Webb led in data collected the day that additional slur witnesses came forward.

The question is whether any of this matters in a race where many voters refuse to vote across party lines. At best, it could depress Republican turnout. But if Webb ends up winning, the lesson will be clear: don’t mess with macaca.

I hope so. Just imagine if it were an African American or Latino boy, who was bullied with racial remarks, what would have happened. I think Allen’s campaign would have been over. (But at the same time I think no politician at that level is careless enough to do it to AA or latino) IMO it just goes to show the ppolitical invisibility of South Asians in the US political scene. If Allen loses, it will give a huge boost to the visibility of SA group.

I disagree with the importance of the macacca slur but it is still very cool to be able to draw a straght line between the macaca slur, his mom’s north african roots(which was barely touched by the big newspapers), to news of his his mom being raised as a jew which in turn triggered a response from George that came across as anti-semetic. Gotta love the domino effect!
