Licensing songs for movies is cool, and the Civic is virtually a Sri Lankan car. But Maya shilling for Bud Light is completely selling out. I mean, that swill is so weak it barely qualifies as beer:
What’s that you say — the beer cut is actually a Santogold track called ‘Creator’?
This style is a virtual clone of M.I.A.’s. Maya was lifted hook, line and sample:
White’s style has been compared often to that of M.I.A. … “We’ve worked with some of the same people and … have similar influences. But the way we go around implementing those influences are very different…” … some of Santogold’s material has been compared to that of the Pixies… [Link]
And who else sampled the Pixies? M.I.A. in ‘20 Dollar.’ The NYT mentioned the similarities in its story on Coachella:
Santogold, the singer and producer Santi White (often reflexively called “the next M.I.A.”), performed accompanied by a D.J. and two dancers… The dancers, who alternated between synchronized hip-hop aerobics and standing at attention like soldiers, made great, simple theater; Santogold’s songs pleasingly integrate hip-hop, dancehall and 1980s rock…
And on Saturday the rapper M.I.A. herself played in one of the festival’s three tents, packing it beyond overflow for a chaotic, jumping, shouting performance. She could have played the main stage, and almost assuredly will one day… hardly any show is a rare experience anymore… [Link]

She’s got a strong Diplo connection too, I think he signed her to his label or something. That either explains the MIA likeness or the MIA likeness explains the connection. Santogold was on Conan tonight, totally sucked. Seems like a schtick, like Mia, minus the beats that bring you back.
This tune ‘Creator’ and Kala’s ‘20 Dollar’ were both produced by Switch. I think it’s a badass combo of Brit electro and Philly beats. It’s collaborative art-rock-electro-rap, squares! Their sounds are similar to the extent that they were created within a small, burgeoning genre. This cool kids club includes daddy Diplo, the wicked Spankrock and the soon-to-be everywhere (I hope) Amanda Blank.
They about as much the same as The Streets and Audio Bullys are.
However, Santogold’s the bigger sell out if she’s already on (crappy) beer commercials.
Had the beer at some pub (as a part of a promotion). Tastes weak.
horrible! i love santogold (les artistes is aMAYzing, watch the video, totally brazilliant, nima nourizadeh directs) but yes this whole bud light thing stinks royally. i saw the commercial for the first time two nights ago and it put me in bad mood. how can she not know the anheuser-busch ppl are republithugian nazis?
