Assassination Attempt, How to React

Now that the requisite period of mourning is over for Bhutto’s assassination, we thought it would be interesting to watch one of the assassination attempts on Indira Gandhi caught on film. Note the bravery of security detail (seated in the front row). Note the lack of security on stage left. Note the cat-like reaction and response of the security team once they get on stage (and Indira’s plea to take care of the fallen hero instead of her.)

And while you’re at it, watch the title credits of the 1988 Mithun Chakraborty spy vehicle called “Commando”. The theme song (in all its variations - moody, disco, etc) and the fight scenes are alone worth the price of the DVD. The blatant use of John William’s Star Wars Theme and Imperial March are bonus and the papier-mâché mountain hideaway of the evil-doer Marcelloni (Amrish Puri as Mogambo lite) are the icing on the cake.

So, off the topic, but does anyone know who the “Angrez” actor was? being a huge bolly fan of the 70s flicks, I often wondered was he all-white or a half-breed like myself. I simply adored his white washed Hindi as it was as bad as mine.

Are you talking about the terrorist leader in the fashionable Ocean Pacific hat? That’s Bob Christo.

Haha, I saw this movie when it came out. It was okay: a Where Eagles Dare meet American Ninja, with a touch of On The Waterfront.

Looks like you’ve been searching for the word “Commando” a lot these days :)
