Bailando fluently (updated)

Check out the Hinditón track ‘Dancing.’ It’s by Johnny Prez with Deevani, who’s Dominican and learned Hindi from an ex:

Update: She’s putting out an entire album in this genre with Rishi Rich soon:

Deevani wasn’t born in India. She is a Dominican, through and through, who was raised in Carolina, Puerto Rico… “As a young girl, I also took Indian dance classes, and I started learning the sitar,” which she had to quit when she had her first baby… [She sits] with her 5-year-old son Najib in an East Village Indian restaurant…

Bhangratón [is] a compilation CD she’s putting together with British-Indian producer Rishi Rich… which they expect to release by the end of the year…

Deevani is also producing her own album, which she says will come out by the end of this year - if her mom duties allow it… she will sing in at least four languages. “I already have some songs in Arabic, light and fun, just so nobody can resist the impulse to get up and dance… I’m also going to incorporate Dominican bachatas, merengue and perico ripiao, all mixed with bhangra.” [Link]

Great catch, Manish. I remember Cicatrix doing a long post on her, too. I am at work. But can’t wait to listen to this song later. Also, I listen to “La Calle” 105.9 all the time, how come I never heard of this Johnny Prez fella. I wonder if he’s new or something.
