The Hill just ran its tongue-in-cheek, annual Capitol Hill beauty contest, which Guyanese-American lawyer Michelle Persaud won handily (thanks, Razib). She’s staff counsel for the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee. And no, she doesn’t look Iranian:
Although Persaud looks Iranian, her family comes from the small South American country of Guyana, a former British colony where East Indians, Africans and Europeans settled centuries ago. She may be the only Guyanese working on the Hill… [Link]
Sam Arora refused to participate but was drafted anyway. The Hill gets Sen. Hillary Clinton’s affiliation wrong — it should be D-NY. She may be a carpetbagger, but she doesn’t claim to hail from the land of Lincoln:

1) wtf was the iranian crack about?
2) as manish pointed out the individual who wrote the article said hillary was from illinois, which is where she raised.
3) i thought that the crack epidemic was over.
4) i also thought that prestigous journals don’t hire crack addicts.
i can’t believe that they waste there time with this bullhonkey…
unbelievabe.
really.
Sam Arora’s profile mentions his uncanny resemblance to Ben Stiller !!!
she comments on a blog (and mentions the reporter’s fixation with her look).
she’s fly…
I agree with chick pea, it sounds so daft. But I guess it’s a laugh for the people who work there. Bottom line: Michelle is dating a Brit…EXCELLENT.
thanks rohin ;)…
if this is what our taxpayer dollars are going to….. i have serious issues…
i mean… people can be ranked but for it to be in the hill newspaper…
a bit disturbing….
She doesn’t “look Iranian”? Manish, what are you getting at? The comment in the article is a bit random, but truth be told, most Persian folks look pretty brown to me. And of course many north Indians are at least partially of Persian descent if you trace it back far enough….
Invaraibly calls to mind LK Advani’s comment that the terrorists — at that point dead — who attacked the Parliament in December 2001 “looked Pakistani,” implying that they didn’t look Indian….
