Big Brown (updated again)

Last night’s Daily Show poked fun at this over-the-top campaign ad for Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), co-chair of the Senate India Caucus and a man famous for being cussed out by John McCain:

Aside from the hilarity of the ad itself, the soundtrack sounds very A.R. Rahman — small bell, tabla-like drum, violin track which leans either Carnatic or Celtic, and vocals straight from a Vidhu Vinod Chopra movie. The voiceover is Texan all right, but the rest is Bollywood. Or maybe Amitabh’s sonorous timbre is closer to Southern swagger than I’d imagined.

Update: HuffPo noticed this clip is similar to a Will Ferrell - SNL parody about… wait for it… sanitary napkins (thanks, AK). Which really works well with Cornyn’s whole masculine theme. At least someone on his staff’s got a sense of humor. Check it out:

Update 2: Here’s the actual source, a ‘61 country song which predated A.R. Rahman

I had a sudden need to hear camouflage. Things are never quite the way they seem.
