BMW building Bombay test track

BMW AG has picked a winner in its search for a test track on which to run its new M8 sports coupe. The winning location will be an unused portion of Bombay’s Western Express Highway.

“Many Formula One teams have come to Bombay for its roads and infrastructure, which are unique in the world,” said Dr. Hassel Hoff, chairman of BMW. “However, we’re the first mass-market carmaker to make the journey.”

Bombay’s Western Express Highway is world-renowned for its speeds during peak rush hour. “Bombay roads are unique,” marveled Lotto Crepe, BMW test engineer. “The city uses a special paving process after the annual monsoon which you will not find in use anywhere else in the world. It’s the ideal surface for testing our 600 horsepower, 14 cylinder M8.”

Bombay politician Bal Thackeray said, “I welcome BMW on the condition that the test track be known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Raftaar Alay.”
