Broadband ISP loses its domain
Tata Indicom, an Indian broadband ISP, is so unprofessional that it lost its Web address to a domain registrar (thanks, Amit) and didn’t even bother to update its links.
The old address, www.tataindicombroadband.in, now goes to a placeholder site by Net4India. Links on the new site are thoroughly broken because they point to the old address. The funniest part: when you call the company to sign up for their service, they give you the old address and are unaware of the hijack!
By the way, the sixth ISP I tried in Bombay just went kaput, with download speeds (3 KB/s) now slower than dialup and outages lasting days at a time. Like Liz Taylor and Zsa Zsa Gabor, I’m in the market all over again. Unless you shell out $2-3K/month for a leased line, don’t even think of relying on consumer broadband outside downtown Bombay. It’s just not there yet.

Net4Indias not really a squatter, they are a registrar..Our company booked some domains from them once upon a time…
I dont get why your still having so many Net problems… It sucks in general, but once something gets started its generally not that much of a problem afterwards…Im using a hathway 2mbps fibre line in the office right now, about 50k for three months payable in advance. Its town so you might not have the same available there, but I got a bunch of clients in Bandra and they dont have as many issues as you seem to be having
I’m just lucky, I guess.
My fiance is working in Mumbai right now and her co. gave out Reliance WAN cards (made by Huawei, that friendly Chinese telecom the Indian government is so suspicious of). Not sure of actual d/l speeds (or costs), but it might be a good way to stay plugged in and mobile.
Oh btw, she travels to H’bad and Gujarat frequently and the card works there, too. Not sure about the NCR but I’m guessing it’ll be OK.
Re: WAN cards, GPRS over cell phone is what I’m using now, and it’s painfully slow.
