Brown Brigade

Former Sum 41 lead guitarist Dave ‘Brownsound’ Baksh, whose family is originally from Guyana, eventually got tired of playing pop punk:

“The past two-and-a half years for me have been very strange and very eye-opening,” says Baksh, who pondered quitting the band numerous times over that period. Baksh didn’t go into detail, but alluded to having problems with his marriage and his family, which spread to the road with the band…

Baksh admits that he differed from his bandmates when they weren’t on stage. “I’ve never been a huge drinker, I was way more of a marijuana smoker.” … asked if Whibley’s fiancee, Avril Lavigne, might have played a Yoko Ono role in trying to break up the group, he says, “No, no, no, 1,001 times no…” [Link]

Last May, he started a metal band called Brown Brigade with his cousin Vaughn Lal. This guy’s obsession with the brown metaphoric makes ours look like peanuts, tiny earth-toned peanuts:

Brown Brigade will have a classic metal sound, which is the music that Baksh has been longing to write and play since childhood. The music of the band is expected to be comparable to the sound of Iron Maiden, says Baksh…

At one point they were planning on a brown knight mascot, but ditched it for a metal lion:

Brown Brigade has currently recruited bassist Vaughn Lal (Dave’s cousin), drummer Lee Fairlea, guitarist Craig “The Craigulator” Pattison (Dave’s guitar tech with Sum 41)…. the band will have their own mascot much like Iron Maiden with Eddie the Head and Megadeth with Vic Rattlehead. According to Baksh the mascot will resemble a brown knight. [Link]

The band eventually found a lead singer around Toronto. Check out their latest track.
