Christmas in August

The Ganesh creches are up throughout Bombay: silver Ganesh with searchlights and disco, glitter Ganesh riding an electric blue peacock. The lights I loved so much during New Year’s in Rome are present here in short-sleeve season.

    lovely photos..
Indian streets are at their best during Ganesh chathurdhi and Diwali..
even poor and middle class communities have their own way of lighting streets and houses during these two festivals which is great to watch…and in small towns and even cities they have these street shows everyday until Ganesh nimarjan performing puppet shows to old forms of entertainment like burrakadha, plays, dances which just makes streets in india lively, festive and beautiful during these two festivals worth waiting.
    Its like christmas in US…
custard apples are also sold during this season I think.. love that fruit, great fruit to eat..
    Enjoy the season..

Hmm.. Ganesh riding a peacock is news to me. In terms of “vahana” (vehicle), I thought the peacock was Murugan’s, primarily. Or maybe that’s a South Indian thing.

Ganesha, riding a peacock, in the form of Mayureshwara is believed to have slain the demon Sindhu at this spot [Moreshwar, named after the Marathi word for peacock]. [Link]
