Cinematic luxury

One night I spoke with a friend from New York who was back home in Bombay for a few weeks. We agreed to meet up for brunch the next day. Two hours later, totally by chance, we ended up on adjacent plush red recliners at Cinemax in Andheri:

These electric recliners feature ottoman-like leg rests. From our seats we ordered blankets, chai, samosas and hot doughnuts. At double the regular ticket price, it was ridiculously luxurious, and I’m feeling guilty (is there anything like this in the U.S.?)

The general air was of a slumber party, not helped by the fact that Dor is the slowest movie ever, 15 minutes of plot in a 2½ hour film. It aims to be an Indian Disney flick and even uses Ron Howard-like clarinets in the score.

The PVR multiplex chain even lets you book tickets and choose seats on your mobile:

    Sounds plot heavy for bollywood!

Sure, if you’re only reading subtitles! Actually, it’s a Disney clone.

Because we all know that there are no artsy movies anywhere in the world with subtitles, right? The only plot heavy movies are all filmed in English :)

That was a comment on Bollywood subtitles.

Why do you suppose Infernal Affairs was remade?

Yes, the moviegoing experience in India is awesome…esp with the advent of multiplexes.

In US, some of the chains have so called “premium” screens along with the usual ones.
    Here is one such example.
