Deccan queen

The Deccan Chronicle debases itself with this billboard in Chennai, snapped by Sree Srinivasan of SAJA:

    The awful thing about it is that though it tries there is no zing to the tagline. No clever one-liner that one could remember and walk away with with a little bump or a bounce. It is tired and boring. (Yes, I’ve seen the larger version as well. The ‘exciting news’ part is just not very clever and seems written by an underwhelmed clerk in accounting.)

    What could make me register…hmmm… how about she gains ten pounds, dresses up as a desi fisherwoman, pouts and has a big black strip across the chest saying…
    “Nothing but the bare truths” or
    “We get right to the bone” or
    “The juiciest bits. In your face. Every day.”

    I mean.. if you got to be base,.. then do it well. This is insulting to BOTH women AND men. I take issue .

    If your circulation numbers are drooping below the waist, clearly there are better ways to implant yourself in the minds of your consumers so you can lift and separate yourself from the competition? I have some ideas, but it’s certainly not all the news that’s fit to print here.

    Of cource these Indian press people and journos make news more exciting by not concentrating on real issues but on junk news like Aish-Abhi wedding/Prince on the well etc.
