Delhi’s Eden

When I first saw Delhi’s heartbreakingly romantic Lodhi Gardens, my reptilian sub-brain said, ‘Badmashi bingo!’ Sure enough, it was full of couples coupling in the sun. Kids played hide-and-seek on a narrow ledge surrounding the Bada Gambad dome. A JNU type lay spreadeagled, photocopied reader at his side.

With a lotus pond, spring flowers, fortress walls and carefully-manicured lawns, this make-out spot is as pretty as S.F.’s Palace of Fine Arts. There’s something morbid about kissing around tombs, but then sex and death are thespian staples.

I was there in November. I thought this was one of the best sites in Delhi.

Ah yes. The first photo shows one of my favorite scenes from Delhi - karmacharis (i.e. government clerks) playing cards in the sun :-) This is a very common sight all over the city in winter.
