Driving Miss Lisa
Here’s the trailer for I Can’t Think Straight, with its fumbly yet potentially iconic scenes of Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth getting it on. But it’s actually director Shamim Sarif’s second cross-cultural lesbian love story starring the same two actresses:
Her first is The World Unseen, a period piece about two women in South Africa during apartheid. Along with Ray and Sheth, it co-stars Parvin Dabbas (Monsoon Wedding, Khosla Ka Ghosla), Nandana Sen and my buddy Avantika Akerkar:
… Amina (Sheetal Sheth)… has drawn all the neighbourhood’s social outlaws to her café - the black waitress who plainly does not know her place; the older white lady who flirts gently with the elegant brown-skinned bachelor. It’s the only spot in town to have any fun, and therefore bound to infuriate the apartheid police… In time, Amina gains the courage to invite Miriam [Lisa Ray] for driving lessons. [Link]
Here’s an early trailer:
And more scenes:
Shamim Sarif is, of course, Sand Saref’s older sister:
Shamim Sarif was born in London and received a B.A. from the University of London and an M.A. from Boston University, both in English literature. She has written several short stories and the novel Despite the Falling Snow, which was published in 2004. Based on her award-winning 2001 first novel of the same name, The World Unseen (07) is her directorial debut. [Link]

Thanks, Manish, that’s two for my list and damn! I needed to hear that Nina Simone.
Yikes, what accent is Sheetal Sheth trying to emulate? Yum to Lisa Ray again!
I ‘ll wait until they show it at 1:00 am on Cinemax
Out of all three clips, that was the only thing I enjoyed.
A little too polished, but I’ll still give it a view.
If movies about lesbians has taught me anything it’s that it’s only okay to be a lesbian if your hot and finger banging another hot lesbian.
I cant believe the some director/writer got paid because of there special talent of making 2 hot women banging look good on the big screen.
And can we fuc#ing stop with the “Bend it Like Beckham” scenes of the indian girl begging her parents for something with the parents responding with the “It is a sin and doesnt look respectable for the family” line? In my eyes, getting paid to make movies this bad is a bigger sin then being gay will ever be.
