Gere head
Richard Gere explains on The Daily Show why there’s an arrest warrant for both him and Shilpa Shetty in India. Gere and Gerbil start with the same letters — coincidence?
Stewart: Today it was announced there’s an arrest warrant out for you in India.
Gere: Thank you for reminding me of this. That is really sweet of you to bring that up… There’s a very small right-wing, very conservative political party…
Stewart: We’re talking about India …
Gere: They are the moral police in India, and they do this kind of thing quite often.
Stewart: … Could you really go to jail for that?
Gere: I don’t know that anyone has actually gone to jail…
Stewart: Could you imagine going to jail.. ‘What’d you do?’ ‘Well, I kissed this girl on the cheek.’
Gere: … They’re like truck drivers anywhere… so me kissing the girl on the cheek was nothing…
Stewart: You can still have Indian food though, right?

I, for one, was glad that Gere made it clear that all the trouble was being caused by a small right-wing party
Let’s just call it what it is, committing property crime for votes.
Those “lost in translation” moments..
whats the fuss about kissing on a cheek for a good cause (AIDS in India)..Iam glad people like Richard Gere and Bill Gates etc., are spending money and time on eradicating AIDS in India..God bless them..
Look at some of the films today like Dhoom II (hrithik and aiswarya scene) and other films..these are not even kissing on the cheek..Rules are different there I guess..
Its different in India..
Last year when I shook hands with guys at business meeting in my small town it became a issue for my small town folks.. It was a normal thing for me since I lived in US for long to shake hands when someone is introduced to me or at the end of the meeting to say goodbye…I didnot even realise that Iam not supposed to shake hands bec.Iam a girl while the rest of the guys in that meeting in my small town shook hands with each other ..since Iam a girl I was supposed to do Namaste even if its a business meeting..
And our business manager kept saying Madam why dont u freshen up..I didnot get what he was trying to tell me before the meeting..later he told me he wanted me to change into a saree or salwar and not wear Jeans for a business meeting in my small town as they all dont feel comfortable working with a woman and specially woman dressed in jeans and who shakes hands..
I learnt my lessons..
is that for real Prakruti? well i guess that does happen in good ol india. that’s why they say mera bharat mahaan. make a big deal about the kiss not about the AIDS meet. sensationalize a goddamn celebrity wedding but when it comes to the living conditions of people who can so easily be cured with a little initiative, make that page 5 news. when it comes to civil liberties and rights, keep under the radar and focus on moral policing instead.
Violence is acceptable, even encouraged as it is invigorating to see for some of these sick people. But a little show of affection, a little show of individuality and personality, they all turn into self-righteous arses.
Shame!
If Gere kissing Shilpa is not OK …then

what I dont like here are double standards..in movies they let them go uncensored and they make big issues out of small issues and divert public attention to something else..instead of focussing on AIDS , janta is focussed on Richard gere and shilpa shetty..but the cause for which they came together on stage was forgotten..sad state of affairs..
