Ghee happier

Sanjay Patel at Pixar has released an expanded version of his Hindu manga book, The Little Book of Hindu Deities. The not-so-little book is now over a hundred pages (via Boing Boing). He changed the title from Little India so as not to lump in non-Hindus, found an agent at ICM, sold the rights to Penguin and posted sketches on his site, all with the help of his wife and in his spare time.

This sketch reminds me a bit of the battle scene in Nina Paley’s Sitayana:

You can buy the book for the rugrats in your life here.

Not bad. Very interesting book. Is this a children’s book? Here beta or beti: These are your gods now go memorize them?
Or is this book something us ordinary folks can use to decipher Hinduism or something to show friends what Hinduism is about?

However, I do say that the book makes Shiva look like a baby rather than a kick ass destroyer. Kind of disappointing. For example, who would you want in your corner when you die? A guy on a cross or a guy with a cobra with a trident kicking butt?

Don’t forget to complement the book by also purchasing some Hindu Deity Finger Puppets
