Hack Hindu

Since we haven’t had enough bad desi accents in The Party and The Guru, Mike Myers is turning his own version into a movie called The Love Guru with Jessica Alba, Justin Timberlake and Mini-Me. Oscar winners, the lot of them. The movie is due out next year:

Pitka is an American who was left at the gates of an ashram in India as a child and raised by gurus. He moves back to the U.S. to seek fame and fortune in the world of self-help and spirituality, specializing in settling intimacy issues between couples… he must settle a rift between major league star hockey player Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco) and his estranged wife… [who] starts dating the star member of a rival team… to the horror of the team’s owner Jane Bullard (Jessica Alba) and Coach Cherkov (Verne Troyer). It’s a spinoff of his Guru Pitka routine:

Myers… appears in a white robe with a fake white beard and putty nose, greeting the audience by clasping his hands and chanting, “Mariska Hargitay.” Speaking with an “Indian” accent that calls to mind Fisher Stevens’s turn as “Ben Jabituya” in Short Circuit, the Guru makes jokes about the Beatles, the Rat Pack, and the Wu-tang Clan in a patter that mixes Yiddish and gibberish (his teacher was named “Gur Tugginmy-Pudher”; another is named “Chedda Frumunda”). Ben Kingsley slums it in the movie as another guru. Godmen need tweaking, but not in an Apu Sellers accent.

agreed. methinks we need to take the religion out of it, and make it purely commercial. rest assured though, i’m working on it. ;)
