Heer da Denmark

Danish singer Anita Lerche makes a village boy very happy in the straight-outta-the-pind track ‘Passport’ (thanks, SP):

“I freaked on the Punjabi dhol beat and fell in love, the moment I heard it,” says Anita who first came to India in 2005 on a trekking trip to the Himalayas… Anita now plans to travel the world with her Punjabi show and already has a tour link-up with… Jazzy B. [Link]

This live performance of ‘Gori (White Girl)’ is more of a novelty, but at least she’s trying:

Here she is singing the slower ‘Heer (Diamond).’

This is crazy, she sings quite well and gets the pronunciation pretty good. Nice one.

She’s got the nakharey down, but not the hair whipping body she needs. Maybe a parandhi would help.

oh yes, a parandhi (hair extensions?).

I’ve seen some really well done bhangra performances in Punjab, and I still remember the hip-twisting moves of the women there and the long parandhi whipping around. Gosh! That was some BOOTY!

having said that, I’m back to being gay. Phew!

    white girls can’t bhangra.

Wow. She does have the pronounciation pretty fly for a white… guy. And he’s pretty cute. So she’s got good ears AND eyes. Double score!

I mean fly for a white girl!

UB - I made a mistake in the link I just posted on the Dunia Project. The concert being broadcast tonight does NOT feature Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. This was a Guelph recording. PanditJi performed with them in a separate concert earlier in Montreal.
