Hello and Cabein

Ultra greetings. I am Rohin. My benediction and gramercy to you, O Manish for inviting me into the funkiest blog with a title ending in brown.

Kunal Anand this very Sunday informed me he has just updated his online store. Kunal, aka Cabein, links much of the desi musickerati together with his mercenary graphics. I am a big fan of the twisted mashup (I’m not sure what that means) he takes on Indian culture and religion.

Kunal is a core member of the increasingly illustrious Shiva Soundsystem and has also worked with/for Shaanti, the BBC, MTV and various companies that have employed his services. He was in charge of the look of SSS’s debut single, Mumbai Cells, produced by Dee Dhanjal and churns out hot flyers for Supersonic Buddha and Mahatma’s Revenge month after month. SSB plays host to the Bandish Projekt this month (their website is too cool na).

Here are some cools odds and sods from the cabein collection.

Manish recently mentioned the D’Archetypes - half of them is working with Kunal on a now finished (I think) book:

Dr. Rohin, while I totally admire the mad artist Koo and wear both his t-shirts, don’t forget that the original Shiva Soundsystem bull’s head logo (seen on the Mumbai Cells single) was created by my putative hubby Studio Mogul back in the day. Back when he actually had free time and energy to do unpaid work for brown musicians… ;)

Last weekend at the Indian Electronica fest (a shame you couldn’t have met Abdul Smooth, he rules), Mr. Mogul saw his Swaraj design on a guy’s chest. The dude totally didn’t believe him, and said he had 7 bootleg t-shirts back home in India just like it. Heh.

I did not know that L. I should do a post about you next! I feel Mr Mogul’s work pre-dates some of my knowledge base, you will have to fill me in. I really do like the bull logo, makes that Chicago-based team seem tame.
