If you catch me at the border

Here’s Maya Auralgasm with her visa marriage fiancé, Benjamin Brewer née Bronfman, who snarls like Hendrix for The Exit (ht: khoof).

Brewer comes from one of Canada’s wealthiest families and is the son of Warner Music Group chief executive officer and chairman Edgar Bronfman Jr. [Link]

… The Exit[’s] biggest claim to fame might be having the song ‘Susan’ appear on the American Pie 2 soundtrack. [Link]

It seems to me that one should avoid telling Fatherland Security about one’s visa marriage by announcing at a concert. Maya’s American work visa runs out soon, but it might be worth staying, it pays better:

Arulpragasam hopped on top of one of the many photo booths at the [MTV] party and told her price for the gig: “They’re giving me $100,000,” she said. Not bad, eh? “I’m going to use it to build schools in Liberia…” [Link]

At another show, the lass pranced in a skin-tight safari suit of Rajasthani fabric. There’s nothing traditional she can’t tart up:

Here are some great snaps of the wild stage set at her show in Williamsburg’s McCarren Park:

… the stage was a heaving mass of bodies doing call-and-response on “Jimmy” as the singer passed the mike around… It was an undeniably cool moment that, along with the shimmering yellow, red, and green lights hanging over the speaker stacks, the projected video-game graphics, and the air horns that fired throughout the night, summed up the Technicolor-Jamaican-rave aesthetic…

M.I.A. refused to dominate her own concert — she was done up in a feather headdress that half hid her face, the spotlight never shone on her, and her vocals rose only intermittently above the mix… There was also a great hype woman who raps pretty well, dances like an elastic doll, and really deserves an introduction. The final charming touch: paper planes lofted into the crowd at encore. [NY Mag]

Swoon. I’ll meet her in Cali and marry her.

P.S. Excellent use of the globe-purse photo. Love it.

She rocks, but wouldn’t Sri Lanka make for a better choice than Liberia? Just sayin’…
