Inman Square

Inman Square by MIT reminds me of those havens of arts and noshing, the Mission in S.F. and Adams Morgan in DC. The Islamic Center:

Punjabi Dhaba usually promises better than it gives: bland samosas and ok-ok chai. But the paranthas bring it.

The tritely-named Olé grinds fresh guac at your table. It’s a gimmick, but I’ll roll over for the flava.

Ryles is reputedly a salsa speakeasy some nights.

One can never possess too many antique radiators.

manish - love that bloody mary bar at east cost grill on weekends. when i first moved to boston four years ago from SF, christina’s spice shop was one of my first stops to load up on my desi spice needs (before i discovered moody st. in waltham). plus the ice cream next door is awesome. grain and salt in allston is a great new indo-pak restaurant. they serve special dishes like nihari on weekends and have a small indo-chinese menu. worth checking out. welcome to boston.

I love Inman Square. Ole is a great Mexican restaurant- I crave ity here in New York. And you should check out Christina’s ice cream- and spice shop. So yummy, so fun.

Christina’s ice-cream..mmm! If you’re lucky, they have pista kulfi some days. I thought I died and went to heaven once when i went in and found the daily special to be Jackfruit sorbet!

Uy! Thanks for the recs, y’all. Clearly I missed the tail end of the square.

TJ, yeah, good Mexican is hard to find in NY - try La Palapa at St. Marks Place.

Thanks for this post - I have such fond memories of punjabi dhaba, the ok-ish food notwithstanding! And do add Emma’s pizza to your list (right be kendall sq).

I never liked Christina’s ice-cream, but i love toscanini though. I thought Kulfi ice-cream at Toscanini’s was better than Christina’s.

Ohhhhhh yes… I used to make the trek from the South End for some Punjabi Dhaba…that is until it was the middle of winter and freezing… then somehow Punjabi Dhaba was not quite as appealing…

Anyone have recommendations for food places in Long Island around Stonybrook? I’m OD on Italian… so something with kick + vegetarian selection. Thanks.

I love living in San Francisco but there are so many things I miss about Boston/Cambridge/Somerville! Funky Inman Sq was great with Christina’s, Ryles, Rosie’s and the beautiful mosque.

Thanks for posting this trip down memory lane!

Check out all-day breakfast at S&S, and the (approximately) one dollar burger specials at Bukowski. And around the corner on Hampshire St., with panini at City Girl Cafe, and books at Lorem Ipsum.

The radiators are technically in Union Square, which has several of its own special places, like Neighborhood Restaurant and Bakery and the spin-off cafe of Diesel.
