Here are snaps from the NYC book launch last night for King of Bollywood, a Shah Rukh Khan bio written by Anupama Chopra. The author is the sister of Sacred Games author Vikram Chandra and is married to Bollywood bigwig Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Her U.S. publisher sent us a review copy.
In the video interview accompanying the launch, Shah Rukh, sporting the shag of a Korean pop star, was relaxed and charismatic in a way he rarely is in interviews. His tight stutter and fake voice from the Bollywood awards in Malaysia had vanished. The launch was respectable, but it’s remarkable how lavish they are in Bombay by comparison. These events lean toward hagiography, so you’ll always get better dirt sub rosa from a Bombay local with friends in film

Pink is such a fine color.
So wait… if this was the book launch, why was I able to read a copy in B&N last week???
Blue, it was a reception to mark the fact that the book is out now and give her a chance to sign and meet-and-greet. (The US release date was August 2.) I guess you could think of it as one stop on a book tour.
Weird. I just saw her at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, like 4 hours ago before Devdas.
Looks like fun… thanks for taking pictures.
