Literary flop-top

Shashi Tharoor shilled his parody of Tom Friedman on Colbert last night with his admirable mop and his plummy laugh. Did he run for UN chief or prep school headmaster? Handled Colbert well, though.

That cover is a five-way cliché.

Totally inappropriate but : I think Shashi Tharoor is HOT
    * ducks to avoid inevitable brickbats that will follow*

If you’ve read his novels, you’ll know he approves of cougar hunting :)

    cougar hunting.

    Manish,
I resent the implication - he is way older than me :-) . Its a match made in heaven , I tell ya

I like Colbert but I wish he hadn’t gone for the outsourcing-bollywood-caste troika.

Tigerelephantmango, check. Multi-armed deity, check. Lexus and Olive Tree spirituality ref, check. World is Flat, check.

I bet the cover has some kind of sari pattern in the background.

    Mean Tharoor’s the cougar. Man-cougar?

I am sorry: If you want a good job done of parodying the Friedman, you’ve got to leave it to Americans, not outsource it to Indians. Although Sassy Thayer with the indeterminate accent from Omaha, Nebraska might be cheaper.

    Mean Tharoor’s the couger. Man-cougar?

In that case , you are totally forgiven ! I was going by this

3quarksdaily has out-friedmaned Tharoor: The Bluetooth and the Burqa!

    From the article:

The highly modest head-to-toe robe even shrouds the eyes, so for centuries it’s been difficult for women wearing them to send suggestive signals to men.

But now a German designer has debuted a digitally-enabled burqa that can broadcast a photo of the wearer to nearby mobile phones.

Eh. We Cantabrigians respect our time-honored traditions, instead of being enslaved by technology.

Did anybody catch Tharoor on Real Time with Bill Maher?

  12. 12manish

No, but here’s the clip from Real Time.

I have heard him give a speech, and have been seing his interviews on TV and NPR for a decade now,
Yet I never can seem to muster any enthusiasm to order any of his book.
He doesn’t have an original idea or insights intto any topic.
