‘Loins’ coming stateside

Great news in pork futures: Loins is finally getting a U.S. release, beginning with NYC on September 12th:

Loins Of Punjab Presents will make its U.S. theatrical premiere on September 12 at New York City’s Quad Cinema (34 West 13th St.) and the ImaginAsian Theater (239 E. 59th Street)…

The #1 English language comedy ever to open in India, Loins Of Punjab Presents has screened and garnered prizes at international film festivals including New York’s First Run Film Festival (Winner, Best Feature Film)… Rome’s 2007 AsiaticaFilmMediale (Special Jury Mention)… and the 2008 Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (Audience Award for Best Feature).

My buddies’ flick will later make its way to San Francisco; San Jose; Chicago; Union City, NJ; CT; Dallas; and Houston.

Be sure and go see it. Anything with Ajay Naidu and Samrat Chakrabarti, and scripted by Anuvab and Manish, is bound to be hilarious, and it is. Here’s a refresher.

    Hi Kal!

I really hope it opens in DC as I spent many years of my life there (working in Tysons, living in Bethesda, partying in Georgetown). The other cities will be determined by the distributor once the first weekend grosses come in. So get everyone you know in NYC and surrounding areas to see it on the first weekend. :) And that will be the surest way of getting LOINS to DC.

    Thanks for the interest.

Why do I have to wait for Sept 12?? It has been a year since the movie came out, why has it not hit theaters? I have been waiting to watch it. I went all the way to Jackson Heights to see if they had a DVD, but they had not heard of it. Oh the agony! I have to wait another month. Well, at least I will get to watch it (hopefully)!

PM — I have the same complaints as you: why such a long wait? :) Anyway … please do come on Opening Weekend in NYC (Sep 12-14). And bring friends. I’ll be around. Stop me and let me know that you are an ultrabrown.com fan, like myself. See you.

    Manish,

Thanks for the update on the potential for LOINS to screen in DC. I too have been waiting for it and am hopeful it will arrive here soon after the initial screenings. Should I keep checking in to ultrabrown.com for screening schedule updates?? BTW, I believe I have read that you used to work for Michael Saylor’s company over in Tysons but have now moved to Mumbai. How do you like it? Are you working on your next film?

    Hey, Manish Acharya,
We met at SAIFF a couple of times last year. (I made Chasing Salman.) A whole batch of friends and I are going to the LOPP screening in NYC, probably on Sep. 13. Which of the two theaters will you be at: Quad or Imaginasian?
    Congrats!!!

Hi Impatient! Yes, i did work at MicroStrategy in Tysons, and was in fact one of the founding members. I have fond memories of the company and of the place. I am working on other movies now, one of which is a comic thriller based in Tokyo and Mumbai.

Hey Evelyn! I do remember you! How are you doing? I am not sure which theater I will be at … but as soon as I know, I will post it here. I look forward to seeing you, and thanks so much for coming with a WHOLE BATCH of friends on the Opening Weekend. I hope more follow your lead. :)

Manish, I’m good! We’re working on a serious doc that we’d like to have done in time to enter into IFFLA.

We saw the LOPP preview at the Regal North Brunswick screening of Rock On last night. The audience laughed in all the right places, especially the bit about renting cable porn at the hotel. Do you have a sense of when it’s coming to Jersey? It occurred to me that, if there’s enough lead time, I can pitch or submit a short piece to the local chain of papers that cover a lot of central Jersey.

    TTYL!
    Evelyn
