Man-sized cross

Congrats to Jenna Bush on getting married to the scion of the Haggar wrinkle-free pantaloon dynasty () and putting her hard-partying days behind her.

Boo to her dad, who had a man-sized limestone cross erected with all the subtlety of a khanda on the rear windshield of a tinted, dropped Honda Civic.

That isn’t a dog whistle for evangelical voters, that’s a sledgehammer. But I’m inspired. At my eventual wedding, I’m going to demand an om symbol the shape and size of the Incredible Hulk.

Are you sure about the Haggar connection? Henry Hager, as far as I know, is the son of the former Lieutenant Governor of VA, John Hager. John Hager’s wikipedia entry does not mention anything about Haggar either. Perhaps you know something I am missing?

I thought it was lovely - a simple, if large, stone monument, the land, the water, flowers.

This is over the top for you? Good thing they didn’t get married in a megachurch or cathedral.

When the cross weighs more than a Buick…

Dubya doesn’t go for the “subtle” floating crosses like Huckabee. Sledgehammer is more his style.

Hey Manish, you’re going to have to go a long way to better this Hindu brother and his symbolic devotion

    Manish,
Have to disagree with you on this one . It IS a wedding and before the advent of wedding planners and destination weddings, a wedding was a religious event - not just a social one. Granted that a huge religious symbol may not be tasteful or personally appealing but its apropos for this occasion.

I remember a friend of mine back in highschool kept getting pulled over by the police and he didnt understand why, until I pointed out that having a Khanda covering your back window with the words “Sikh Soldier” written on top of it doesnt exatly scream “No need to pull me over”

I used to drive a beater in college and got pulled over constantly. The problem magically vanished when I upgraded to a new car. Selective enforcement is real.
