O brother, where art thou?
The Hollywood writer strike takes a toll on the protest itself. This scare-vid about writers’ jobs being Bangalored is badly-scripted and irrelevant to the bandh (via Racialicious).
Holly Hunter does nail one thing, though: writing Hollywood like a Lokhandwala serial would be a 360 degree, repeat-shot-thrice disaster.
The accent is fakey, as usual. What, no head-wagging?

Screw Ms. Hunter and her homespun earnestness schtick. Maybe if the actors/actresses weren’t so greedy there would be some piece of the pie leftover for writers. The couch potato public hates desis so I am sure this ad will be very effective
I’m not sure they hate desis so much as that protectionism has always been popular in domestic politics.
i am not sure what they were going after. was it deliberate that the background to the support guy had clippings that could only have originated in the US - OSHA, $4.75 minimum wage etc…
by the way is the US minimum wage still around $5? that would be kind of appalling I’d imagine because out here they are considering $10 minimum. Anything lower is supposedly below poverty level.
ultrawhite…
The current U.S. minimum wage looks like $5.85. Perhaps some grad students can enlighten us ;)
hm.. so the backdrop is dated 1997. it’s not impossible for a little used corner in an office to keep stuff pinned up for ten years. well… considering that this ad comes straight from hollywood, this is a little embarassing they did not take care of the details. may be they should come up to hollywood north for some quick tips in moviemaking. -SLAM-.
:-)
Apart from the irrelevancy…doesn’t anyone feel the blatant racism…you know, this kind of thing kinda borders on freedom of speech, racism and disgusting put-down humor involving race that the people being made fun of are expected to be ‘liberal’ about it because it’s ‘just a joke’?
I mean, these days, it’s hard to identify what to feel about certain aspects of racism, coz if we feel discriminated, we are conservatives and if not, we are liberals…and whatever in between.
Protectionism…not at the cost of racism.
Anyways, you never know, some time in the future, it may turn out to be true. The very creative ‘minds’ that they are trying to protect, will be outsourced…maybe then this wouldn’t seem racist!
