Most big cities downtowns to me almost look the same in the nights..day time they look so different but with nite lights and multistoried buildings they all look the same to me..specially if u look at them from a open space or from a distance with water or beach near by..
very interesting comparison..US and Indian city..
Do they have fireworks in India for august 15th , I dont think so, it has been long since I went to India for independence day celebrations..I think indian parades have all the state representations..indian parades are more diverse, rich cultural diversity with people in different costumes and all that without jazzy fireworks..here it is more of concerts, fireworks which is also very very nice fun…
I like weddings in India or diwali time in India , then streets are all with those festival lights and fireworks are more individual fun rather than govt. controlled fireworks..

I was in San Francisco this weekend, and went up on Knob Hill’s “Top of the Mark” for the much anticipated view of the fireworks but the fog spoiled it all (couldn’t even see the building next to us).

    - I think some of the downtowns have their own look and feel like San Francisco, New York, Boston, PHL, DC, etc. Though, I do agree that most of them have some generic elements to it like - tall buildings, scarcity of sunlight, etc.
    - August 15th is celebrated with just a speech and kite’s festival
    - Republic day has the diverse state parade

Manish, are you still in the Bay? If so, give me a call!

747- The Castro wasn’t much better, though we were treated to some highly illegal street displays by equally frustrated residents.
