Ondaatje reading in Manhattan tonight
Michael Ondaatje will read from his new novel Divisadero at Barnes & Noble tonight, 4th floor, 7pm. It’s the Union Square location in Manhattan.
He is not telling stories; he is using the elements of storytelling to gesture in the direction of a constellation of moods, themes, and images. He is creating the literary equivalent of a Cornell box or a rock garden or a floral arrangement.
Ondaatje is an enemy of the linear. He has called his novels “Cubist,” and we are almost commanded not to try to iron out the kinks. [Link]

thanks Manish, never read Ondaatje, though saw the movie “the english patient”.
Loved ur link to NY times, that review was so so good..looks like he has a unique style of writing..hope to read his books.
Pity he wasn’t on longer today on WNYC.
He was much more personable tonight then years ago at a special event of him, Anthony Minghella and Gabriel Yared, talking about the making of the movie of The English Patient.
At the end of the event, they announced that Ondaatje was signing books and as people headed toward the stage, he looked positively stricken.
Joel Grey was seated in the guests of Michael section and greeted him briefly when the Q & A was over.
