‘Sacred Games’ launch

Snaps from the Sacred Games book launch at the Hilton Towers on Marine Drive last night. In between trips to the wine bar, someone said something about a kickass 900-page novel

Author Vikram Chandra is flanked by gangster Ganesh Gaitonde:

Chandra rasslin’ readers and the media:

Melanie Abrams and husband Chandra, who both teach at my alma mater, UC Berkeley:

I ran into Sushma Reddy (Chup Chup Ke):

Anuvab and I had a very amusing conversation with Nethra Raghuraman (Thakshak, Bhopal Express), who contrary to stereotype was quick on her feet:

Anuvab chatted up Simone Singh (Being Cyrus):

The buff Sikh dude who I’m guessing is the cover model for protagonist Sartaj Singh, wore a khaki turban so he’d be recognized:

Anuvab staring at someone’s badonkadonk:

Chandrahas looking heroically stoic:

Anand Giridharadas of the IHT, stylin’ as usual:

Marine Drive from above:

Anuvab’s friend and Vagina Monologues actress Avantika Akerkar, downstairs at Frangipani:

The thank-you chocolates:

shame on you, manish. where’s the detailed description of you grabbing simone’s singh luscious breast under the pretense of procuring a glass of wine for Anuvab?

Is that what he told you? :)

Coming from such a filmi family, did he say (or did anyone ask) about a movie deal for the story?

This story and this story discuss adapting the book for film. Some of the action scenes are written quite cinematically.

    Thanks, Manish.

First A Suitable Boy, now Sacred Games. And I thought the Irish were a chatty lot…

If only Kaavya hadn’t self-imploded, maybe she could’ve popped out an even longer novel later in life, a 1,300-pages opus about the investment banking world.

But seriously, ASB and SG are kinda’ interesting bookends, as far as Indian hyper-novels go. ASB is to SG what PBS’ Masterpiece Theater is to HBO’s The Sopranos.

Can’t wait to get my copy…
