Sammy and Rosie strike oil
There Will Be Blood does for moustaches what Janis Joplin did for the bell-sleeve minidress. That’s a fine caterpillar adorning Daniel Day-Lewis’ upper lip. This actor, Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) and Freddie Mercury make a case for man-patches as spectacle.
The film starts slowly and goes out with a ham sandwich: Day-Lewis plays an amoral entrepreneur, lording it over the Little Miss Sunshine teen nihilist turned unctuous godman. The movie is like Cape Fear for atheists. Day-Lewis struts like a fighting cock, like Amitabh, and roars, ‘I am the Third Revelation!’

Several years ago I saw In the name of the Father and became a fan of the man. So I read DD-L’s interview in y’day’s G&M with great relish. FYI.
Manish:
What’s with the snarky comments? I have a hard time whether you like the movie or not. Perhaps it’s just me. Anyway, can post a list of movies you do like?
The critics drooled, but I’m ambivalent. The movie is slow-paced and determinedly non-commercial, with a screeching orchestral soundtrack from horror movies. But it’s intelligent, and I love method actors. Day-Lewis is excellent here.
Of current movies, I quite liked No Country for Old Men, I Am Legend, Juno and Charlie Wilson’s War.
same question here too Manish, which of the three movies u liked is the best to take my mom ? thanks so much for ur movie reviews, I decide on seeing movies based on ur reviews..mom can only see one movie in 15 or 20 days, so do u know which of these three is the best to see with not too much pain or voilence, Iam planning to take her to a movie on new year day. Iam glad I didnot take mom to atonement, it was one sad slow movie.. my american friends mom who visited me last weekend told me to show mom charlie wilsons war, she said it is based on a real life story..personally I want to see debator movie..thanks so much Manish..
