Samoan thangka

Samoan-Kiwi-American graffiti artist Iosefatu Sua created this mashup of Krishna, kali and thangka. It’s available as one of several laser etchings on the back of a customized Zune 80, which WinSuperSite thinks is better than the iPod Classic and Touch:

… the Zune 80 blows the iPod classic out of the water. It offers a vastly superior screen with a nicer user interface. Both the music and video experiences are superior. The only thing missing, of course, is the backend service. While the Zune Marketplace is nice for what it is, Microsoft doesn’t offer Zune owners the same range and quantity of content that iPod users enjoy on the iTunes Store…

The Zune pulls ahead of the iPod touch in a few key areas. Most notably, it features 5 to 10 times the storage capacity of the iPod touch…. no constant cleaning of smudgy fingerprints, and that you can do things like change the current song title or change the volume without even looking at the device. But consider the source, and the fact that the Touch has a Web browser and plenty of hackability. I found the smaller, Flash-based Zune 2’s hardware disappointing, with a lacquered finish rather than a double shot, a non-color-matched touch squircle, a design reminiscent of the old Nano, a screen which doesn’t stretch edge-to-edge, touch sensitivity redundant with clicking, and dimensions larger than the old Nano.

On the other hand, the Zune’s user interface and features have always been superior. As with PCs, the ideal situation is a variation of that old European joke about heaven and hell (heaven: British soldiers, German engineers, Italian lovers, French cooks; hell: French soldiers, Italian engineers, German lovers, British cooks). Ideally I’d run Vista in an Apple case. YMMV, obviously, your religion is yours.

Sua joined the Army and trained as a combat medic who would go out with the foot soldiers. While stationed in Germany, he met a fellow artist and tagger from Los Angeles. They got together and started doing pieces on the Autobahn together… [Link]

(heaven: British soldiers, German engineers, Italian lovers, French cooks; hell: French soldiers, Italian engineers, German lovers, British cooks).

chuckle… but there is truth to it, no? though of course one cant be too literal about it - but London is supposedly home to some of the best restaurants in the world, and Italian car design is arguably the sexiest in the world, etc.

what would desis be really good at… ? there are intra-india stereotypes of course… sikh + rajput soldiers, gujarati + rajasthan traders, tamil geniuses, kerala’s sensual foodies and lovers, bengali intellectuals (?!) etc. but if one looks at southasia… nepal, bhutan, sri lanka, bangladesh, india, pakistan, afghanistan, myanmar, tibet, laos … the picture is a little bleak if one looks at each country’s single, defining attribute at the macro level. how would anyone else cast the stereotypes in the southasian context?
