‘Scoop’-ing waste

Sanjeev Bhaskar had a blink-and-you-missed-it cameo as a poker player in Woody Allen’s Scoop (Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johanssen):

Meera Syal was reportedly pissed because her scenes, filmed when she was heavily pregnant, were cut. She was a co-traveler on Charon’s boat:

After Match Point, also about murder and the English upper class, I’m starting to wonder what Allen has against Scarlett Johanssen. He keeps trying to kill her off The trademark nebbish humor is there (’I was born into the Hebrew persuasion, and when I grew up I converted to narcissism’), but only in small doses.

This feels like a rehash of Allen’s magician farce The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, which I saw at a tiny theater in Trastevere. Watching American movies in non-English-speaking countries is loads of fun, especially the Gropinator dubbed in the uncle-auntie tones of European Spanish. Maybe six people have a lock on the dubbing market in Spain, and they all sound like old farts doing a reading of Don Quixote.

And on that note, here’s Terminator 2 dubbed in pindu Punjabi.
