You’ll be happy to know that PETA has gone to bat so that animals can swing their batons. They’re making sure Indian zoo animals get laid at least once a year:
The Supreme Court, on a petition filed by NGO People for Ethical Treatment to Animals, have sought responses from various authorities on why over 500 zoo animals in India have to lead an unattached life…
The rule states: “Every zoo shall keep the animals in viable, social groups. No animal will be kept without a mate for a period exceeding one year unless there is a legitimate reason for doing so or if the animal has already passed its prime and is of no use for breeding purposes…” [Link]
It used to be that the only guarantee of sex was a penchant for singles bars and a heavy drinking habit. Yo PETA, how about spreading the love?

remembering an ugly incident - it was either in the town of boiled beans or mysore - there was a rather forlorn black bear in a zoo enclosure with an erection - and some guys were competing on who could hit its rod with pebbles - the morose chap at the center of attention seemed to have given up caring - it was too searing hot anyway to move away from that little bit of shade available to him - yea - my memories of indian zoos are not very pleasant - this peta stuff sounds like a step in the right direction
