The Indian government is way ahead of the U.S. in its use of mobile phone alerts. I can’t think of a case where a local U.S. government broadcasts an alert in any medium other than TV, radio or blinking street sign. Imagine the day your weather alert comes in via official RSS feed.

But the English is lacking. ‘Heavy’ a safe monsoon indeed:

(What BMC means.)

This message came from Airtel, which is pretty cool of a mobile company to suggest since it reduces billable minutes. I think they mean homage to the victims though.

    Have you heard this (lame) joke ?
    “Poora India SMS se chalta hai”
    SMS = Sardar Manmohan Singh.

    People in India use SMS for ordering pizza, buying movie tickets, paying cable bills, voting for reality shows etc etc.
