Succulent ‘Loins’ opens SAIFF (updated)

I’ve been building it up for months, and now you can finally see it: the ensemble comedy Loins of Punjab Presents opens this year’s South Asian International Film Festival in NYC. The opening gala will be at 9pm the evening of Wed., Oct. 3rd at Loews Lincoln Square, Broadway between 67th and 68th. My friends Manish Acharya and Anuvab Pal, who directed and co-wrote the movie respectively, will be flying in from Bombay, so you can launch your own private brickbats and hosannas. The Shabana and Ajay Naidu will also grace us. There will be a small afterparty. Tickets go on sale Sep. 1, and presumably the remainder of the program will be posted then.
Loins also has its Indian theatrical run in PVR cinemas beginning next month. Since this was fimed, big-headed star Darshan Jariwala played the khadi king in Gandhi, My Father. Now if we can only get Acharya to release Nina’s music vid for Ajay and Samrat’s harmonium rap…
Update: The premiere will be at Loews Lincoln Square (see above).

A 120 second version of the Music Video will go on air on MTV India as of Sep 3. I will post the video online as soon as I get my act together. :)
Thanks for the Loins plug.

You tell me. Je ne parle pas français.
Not sure about UK distribution, will ask. Acharya will have a download version at some point.
My excitement for this film is completely unholy. At this moment I plan to haul ass all through September so I can justify taking a day or two off for a pilgrimage to SAIFF. You have made my week with this news; my tiny little mind positively buzzes with anticipation. Yay! And thank you.
Brilliant. Team Preeti reminds me of my family.

though a fun NY trip on october 3rd with friends doesnot sound bad if it is on a weekend day if health permits..may be we can catch some broadway shows too and see CNN office/AC360 in NY all in one trip…
Can’t wait to see it. I hear that Anuvab Pal might also be at The Lark on Monday evening for a reading of a piece of his play, THE PRESIDENT IS COMING. We saw it at Salaam Theatre earlier this year. Very funny play.
Doesn’t “South Asian” imply international? Isn’t it kind of redundant to say South Asian Indian. is there another place located in South Asia?
Still can’t wait for the movie.
