This morning, 42 Republican Senators and one independent voted again to prevent anyone at Gitmo from even asking why they were arrested. Especially rich: John McCain’s vote, even though he’s a former POW. Though many of the detainees are bad guys, several innocent men were also jailed:

[Dr. Isa Khan from Pakistan] used to run a clinic in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif. He live there with his Afghan wife and six-year-old son and was detained shortly after the Taliban regime fell to US troops. “I don’t know why they kept me for four years, why they arrested me…”

One Interior Ministry paper… noted… “He went to Afghanistan along with his Afghan in-law’s relatives for living there and nothing else…” [Link]

[Khan is] a “homeopathic doctor… who, American and Pakistani officials have privately admitted to Human Rights Watch, has no connection to the Taliban or Al-Qaeda.” [Link]

This is it, guys. This is partly why you or your parents moved over. This is why you’re here and not in Delhi, Kochi, Calcutta, Mizoram, Bangladesh, Punjab. This is America: no random arrest, fair trial, rule of law.
