‘The Knights of Prosperity’
Here are some clips from The Knights of Prosperity, a cringe-com which looks like The Office meets petty crime. Iranian-American comic Maz Jobrani plays Gourishankar, a Tamil cabbie with an accent that’s sometimes on, often Sellers. Bikini pinup Sofia Vergara is a Latina stereotype in latex, the likes of which predate I Love Lucy. The ringleader’s day job is guarding a dreidel warehouse against the menace of international matzo ball thieves

Gourishankar, a cab driver, is not written as a caricature and the joke is not on his accent. In fact, his ethnicity is hardly the defining point of his character. (How many Tamils do you know who have been married and divorced four times?) Unfortunately, I found his accent and mannerisms cringe-worthy beyond belief. [Link]

like the show, especially the tshirts :)
I watched the show online and I quite like it. I realize a lot of the humor comes from playing on stereotypes — nerd, spicy latina, big black guy etc.
About Maz Jobrani as a desi. His accent is not exactly accurate and is all over the place … even sounding to me like Austin Powers at some points. There have been two scenes so far with Hindi (yes, Gourishankar speaks Hindi, not Tamil, apparently… it’s possible). One where he goes to see an Indian dentist and he has two lines in Hindi; the first line I actually understood but the second he totally massacred. And then in another episode he sings an ostensibly Hindi version of “Cat’s in the Cradle” while he goes back to visit all the children he’s fathered and abandoned (going against the model-minority stereotype as Naina said). Here again I couldn’t understand what he was saying (though it’s also possible that my comprehension of Hindi is lacking). It’s funny with or without an accurate Hindi rendition. I haven’t been able to find the particular clips on youtube to link to but you can watch full episodes at the abc site btw
Ok, i checked again. The supposedly hindi “Cat’s in the cradle” was total gibberish. But it was funny.
