The Spanish steps
Sundal Roy of Rawalpindi, Pakistan, says she will discard her duds and streak through Pamplona for PETA’s annual Running of the Nudes. The protest against animal cruelty happens before the traditional bull run. Roy says:
“… the abolition of bullfighting is a really good cause to fight/party for… I’ll try to learn some Spanish, pack lots of sunscreen and shave!” [Link]
Bullfighting is a tremedously cruel sport, but I like me some Pasión India. Finally the naked nattering nabobs of activism learn to stop, doff and mosh.

I streaked once.
It was cold.
My balls shrunk to saunf,
Will never again be so bold.
whats wrong with people, cant they fight on this issue by some other decent way..
Anyways..
I understood a lot about bull fighting in spain when I read James micheners novel “Drifters” ,great novel. I think one the characters in the novel gets hurt in bull fighting but never gives it up, but does it for the adventure and fun.. strange bold people..anyways..
there is a sport called jallikattu in Tamil nadu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jallikattu, and there are cognate traditions around southern india..so much for iberian boldness if you see what these guys endevour to do!
Ara, great pointer. Check out this gorgeous gallery of jallikatu photos.
Just yesterday, Indian Supreme Court stayed a Madras High Court judgment refusing to ban ‘jallikattu’ in Tamil Nadu during Pongal. The petitioner initially noted that “the bulls are made to drink arrack (alcohol) and chilli powder is sprinkled into their eyes to make them ferocious. In the ‘manjavirattu’ event, the bulls are chased for several km by the people.†The state of Tamilnadu had argued against a ban because the sport attracted lot of foreign tourists. http://www.thehindu.com/2007/07/28/stories/2007072859780100.htm
I think this is a wonderful opportunity to PETA to start a new (nude) protest in Tamilnadu. It is a win-win proposition because it makes a point against animal cruelty and will bring tourists- foreign and local - in larger numbers to Tamilnadu! Go PETA!
