The under-bumper dingle-dangle
The ubiquitous Bombay good luck charm consists of chili peppers, a lemon and a piece of coal on a string, hung from a vehicle bumper or a tree. Add in the European belief in the repellent powers of garlic, and you’ve got yourself some mighty potent pasta sauce.

Have you noticed any squished limbu-mirchis on the streets? I can’t remember the day of the week, but on a particular day, everyone changes their limbu mirchis and throws the old ones over their shoulders onto the streets.. that used to be the only day when limbus out-numbered the dogs on my street.
Of course, that day could be the day the local phul-waala delivers the lm..and not really Saturday = limbu over shoulder day.
This little thingy was also used down south in this year’s Kamalhasan film Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, but for much more sinister purposes.
I was reminded of this funny episode of seinfeld where a christian nun falls in love with Kramer and kramer feels bad about his seducing powers specially attracting an all religious nun and tries to repel her by rubbing garlic all over his body..
