Today:
One of the two survivors of the San Francisco Zoo tiger attack… told the victim’s father that the three had yelled and waved at the animal while standing atop the railing of the tiger’s exhibit… “when they got down they heard a noise in the bushes, and the tiger was jumping out of the bushes…”
[Police] also found a kit commonly used to defeat drug testing, which included a vial of unisex synthetic urine… Kulbir Dhaliwal told police that the three had smoked marijuana and had each had “a couple shots of vodka” Christmas Day… [Link]
[A zoo worker] said he examined the grotto a few days after the attack “looking for things that did not belong in the grotto… I found two stones… One stone was made up of a smooth material that was different from any of the rocks or gunite that make up the grotto exhibit.” … he [also] found a medium-size steel washer in the bottom of the moat. The tiger should have been contained, yes, and the zoo was probably grossly negligent. But these two are famous now for their run at a Darwin Award. And their friend is dead. Tenu sharam ni aundi?

Regardless. People will behave stupidly ’cause they are people. Animals will atatck cause they are animals.
The Zoo is still responsible for ensuring that an incident like this just cannot happen by making sure that the tiger cannot get out period. The police are still responsible for taking every 911 call seriously and responding.
