Webb defeats Slurboy!

Democrat Jim Webb has squeaked past incumbent George ‘Macaca’ Allen to win the Senate seat from Virginia. Webbro has declared victory.

The 8,359 7,050-vote margin is less than half a percent, which lets Allen request a recount after the vote is certified. Absentee and Provisional ballots still remain. Allen will probably try to subvert the recount. He’s the incumbent, his party has a history of monkeying with recounts, and Senate control looks like it will rest on it. Virginia is driving distance from Karl Rove’s minions in D.C. But the margin is large enough that it’s unlikely to be overturned. Webb is the new senator from Virginia.

As predicted, the chain of events started by S.R. Sidharth is one of the factors in giving control of Congress to the opposition party and stopping the Iraq war. And the larger lesson drawn by politicians is, it’s a bad idea to slur desi Americans.

Makin’ dosas (again)

In other news, according to CNN’s exit poll, 93% of Virginia Republicans voted to re-elect the racist. Nice.

Manish, I want to thank you for your comprehensive coverage of Macacagate. I read the original story on sepiamutiny, and have since been following the coverage on your blog. Your metaphor “for want of a nail” aptly describes the chain of events that may lead to change in majority in the US senate.

Yes, ultrabrown had comprehensive coverage of the macacgate. Whenever I wanted to get an update on the Macaca race I would come to this blog.

So, thanks for hard work and Congratulations on the victory.

Indeed one insult thrown by an a-hole senator at a Desi will end up deciding the fate of US Senate and in turn the fate of Iraq policy.

The iraqis should be happy at this sweep also. May be now they will get what they want (80% Iraqi people want the US out according to most polls)

Thanks guys. For the rest of y’all, sorry for boring you– I get obsessive :)

Sometimes I wonder whether sending a dark-skinned man to tape Allen, given his known racist tendencies, was a Webb masterstroke.

Macaca power even made Webb bhai learn making dosas :).

there was another crappy campaign in Illinois, which am sure most people read about on SM. that sounded like stretching things to the limit.
