Girl, interrupted

What both Hindu and Muslim fanatics have in common: both are currently hounding women for accepting hugs.

The Pakistani tourism minister resigned yesterday after hardline Islamic clerics accused her of obscenity for hugging her instructor after a [quake relief] parachute jump… the government appeared to cave in to the demands of the militants…

[Nilofer] Bakhtiar told a Senate standing committee that her life was under threat… But the Government did not take any action against the clerics, who are campaigning for the establishment of Taleban-style conservative Islamic rule in the capital, and instead urged her to resign… Less than two months ago a Punjab provincial minister was shot dead in the eastern city of Gujranwala because she was not wearing a veil. Those who claim to be the most pious are actually sex-obsessed perverts; it’s the inevitable outcome of repressing human nature; and because they are cowards, women are their softest targets.

I’m not pious but am sex obsessed and a pervert.

I seriously doubt it that a correlation can be made that implies some relation on that.
I am not sure about the women being softest target either.
Most women from such cultures themselves favor/support these kind of “repression”.

you are right Manish…BTW I loved ur gender gap article..glad people like u exist and there is hope in todays world because of modern men like u who believe in women’s rights and equality..
when I talk to my Asian friends (chinese, japanese, korean) I realise its the same story everywhere..it is a male dominated society all the more in Asia than in other parts of the world..Ofcourse compared to other south Asian countries India and pakistan are more conservative..
My american friends are surprised that both countries had women prime ministers(Indira Gandhi and Bhutto), yet women are just the backward class with lot of restrictions imposed from simple hugging to handshakes..
After seeing Deepa mehtas movie” water” I realised that women in India in my grandmas generation suffered so much specially widows (locked up, madeto shave heads, wear white, never to marry and some made to commit sati), while men of the same generation married 4 times (example Mahatma Gandhis father,grandfather)..
I dont know even today Dowry and some evil customs still exist..women are and have always been the soft targets..
I hope and pray my daughters and grandaughters generation life changes..

per these scolds and guardians of indian “moral” culture, kissing in public is against indian/hindu culture, but bride burning, dowry deaths, gang rapes etc. are all perfectly fine and keeping with our traditions and culture. but don’t be caught kissing a member of the opposite sex in public, or similar. Go figure!

Brilliant analysis, all befitting a Royal pedigree,
now go back and find where gang rape is accepted in hindu culture.

Well frankly the problem is with Islam. This is nothing compared to what happens in the holy land. Try finding a woman political leader from saudi arabia,….A related issue for me is Obama, as an apostate if he wants my vote, the man has to grab the bull by horn, and give us the story ….He did give up islam and is running against a woman, so he ought to have the balls and say why he comitted apostasy.
