Zunerupa

‘Mal De Mer’ by Rupa & the April Fishes is a free download for Zune owners this week, whch probably has something to do with it being April.

Zune focuses on indies because iPod has locked up the mainstream MP3 player market. It’s odd positioning for a behemoth like Microsoft. It’s also a funny switcheroo with Apple, since creatives love their Macs.

Windows Vista also bundles two Karsh Kale tracks, so at least one corner of your hard drive comes with soul patch, billy-goat gruff and impeccable taste in electronica.

I’m checking out their MySpace page now. They sound good. Thanks for the tip.

Rupa rocks — her band has a madcap polyglot old-world sound, in French and Spanish. Great stuff. Sort of like Norah Jones meets Comp Lit. She’s also a doctor, on the faculty at UCSF.

more about rupa over at sepia last month … and she was on NPR’s “Soundcheck” performing live a few weeks ago, which was fun to hear.

Hey, if you don’t already have Karsh Kale, you’ve got serious probs!
