Hey not the first gay pride march at all! In both cities. I realize that June is Gay Pride Month or something, but that doesn't mean Bangaloreans and Delhites have not marched in solidarity for sexuality minority rights before. And have been doing it for a long time.
I have spent the last 15 minutes getting all traces of the website off the computer.
Why?
uggh... " flashes of originality give me hope
flashes of originality give me hope
..ah? really?
Not nessecarily. But I think I know what you mean.
Yeah, I agree. Not necessarily. But if a short story is able to convey something as complex as "uneasy sorrow", then I am taking this reviewer's opinion with a huge grain of salt.
hmm... I have not read Unaccustomed Earth, but this makes me want to go out and read it more so than the gushing reviews I have read so far.
the kind of quiet suburban lives which few other authors believe bear documenting.
A good story is a good story, it's
not about documenting what "a few authors" (or all of mankind for that matter) believe are important to document. It's about what the author believes is important to document.
And subtlety and things like "uneasy sorrow" are far more difficult to write than one that punches a hole through your literary retinas with its fireworks of adjectives/metaphors.
I liked OSO - of course I also went in knowing that it was just going to be a mindless hindi movie - which it was. But I loved all the mockery of the hindi film industry and the over-acting. I was cracking up through the whole movie, so I think I got my money's worth.
Congrats Manish!
wow, gorgeous pictures.
My father in law is from Kandahar - I'm thankful his family left when they did so they didn't have to be around to experience this horrible environment.
Jag - my cousin married into an Afghan Sikh family in Southall - it was a nonstop week of singing and dancing and a thousand and one rituals. Seemed like all the shops in Southall were owned by them - an extremely close-knit community.
The movie was horrible - seriously, two action scenes in an entire James Bond movie? And they completely wasted the Aston Martin - might as well have been a Toyota or something since they barely used it. And on top of that, Daniel Craig looks like a mouse. And they killed off the hot chick too early. Blah - bad movie.
haha - never thought I'd read about him on your blog.
lol, poor om malik - let's see if he sticks by his words =)
ew!!!
very hot performance .. def. my favorite of the night.
haha indians are full of strange good luck myths so i wasn't even phased by the unibrow luck theory!
I heard somewhere that her unibrow is considered good luck .. and since she did so well in the beginning of her career she never wanted to get rid of it.
Loved the captions Manish =)
She's showcasing some of her designs at the Bollywood Fashion Awards this saturday in NYC.

IWS.
Ok, I'm just kidding. But if my Dad heard about this, he'd try to push me to redesign the site =)
